Nigerian youngsters on national duty at the ongoing ITF/CAT West & Central African Junior Tennis Championships, have made their marks in the tournament already.

At the semifinal stage of the girls’ U16 doubles, the Nigerian players stood out and shone brightly, even though they fell short in the individual events.

Marylove Edwards and Oiza Yakubu were outstanding in their matches and were rewarded with a final place meeting in the doubles.

Nigeria Tennis Live gathered that Edwards will partner Lily Minet from Cote D’Ivoire to battle Nigeria’s pair of Rebecca Ekpeyoung and Oiza.

Also, the boys were outstanding in the doubles, and will now square up to face Ivorian opponents for the final trophy.

The Nigerian pair of David Dawariye and Canice Abua will be in action today against Franky Martial Jolman and Angel Koudio, after an amazing semis match.

Even though Edwards and Yakubu lost out in their singles semifinal encounters, they will be up against each other for a third place decider.

With the remaining fixtures, Nigerians are all but guaranteed a winner in the girls’ doubles as well as a third place finish in the girls’ singles.

Overall, the mood in the Nigerian camp has been extremely positive and the players hope to give in their best in their final matches.

Nigeria Tennis Live will continue monitoring the players’ progress in Lomé, Togo, and report to our teeming audience appropriately.
