ITF/CAT AJC Qualifiers: Marylove, Oiza Abua Lead Team Nigeria To Togo
Team Nigeria to the forthcoming ITF/CAT West & Central Africa Junior Championships have departed the country for Togo, where the competition it taking place.
Nigeria Tennis Live can report that the team coordinated by experienced tennis coach Abel Ubiebi and the Ekiti state junior tennis handler, Akinwunmi Ogunshakin, departed the shores of the country on Sunday morning.
Winner of the first leg at the recently introduced Junior ITF Circuit in Abuja in 2019, Canice Abua, is one of the players leading Nigeria to the qualifying series.
Also, Marylove Edwards, who won the female category of the first leg of the Junior ITF Circuit also in Abuja, is the leading female player to the competition in Togo, as well as top junior stars, Oiza Yakubu and Rebecca Ekpeyong.
Baring a change of rules by the ITF, Nigeria Tennis Live gathered that the winners and runners up of the U14 will qualify for the World Junior Championships.
While the winners and runners up in the U16 category will land a spot in Junior Davis Cup which holds later in the year.
Nigeria’s chances of clinching a final place spot are quite bright, judging from the caliber of players going to the competition, especially with the technical backup they’re traveling with.
