ICYMI: Meet All The Winners At The 2024 National Youth Games (Medals Table)

Nigerian tennis players were at their amazing best during the 2024 National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, winning medals for their respective States.

The National Youth Games is an age-grade tournament specifically meant for players who are 15 years and under, and tennis was one of the events included in the competition.

Players representing different States participated in the competition and made their States proud with the medals they won in different events.

Nigeria Tennis Live gathered that the players competed for honors in Singles and Doubles in both male and female categories as well as Mixed Doubles during the five-day fiesta in Asaba.

Bright Emmanuel from Lagos State reached her first final at the Games after losing the 2023 semis, and made sure it counted when she played against Emmanuella Kwange of Niger State to win gold leaving the Abuja-based youngster with the silver medal.

Another Apapa Tennis Club sensation, Ndifreke Benjamin and 2023 gold medalist, Lorelay Holzendorff from Edo State, settled for the girls Singles bronze medals.

In the boys Singles finale, Seyi Ogunsakin had to settle for silver after losing a fierce battle against Gbolahan Olawale from Ondo State. Olawale copped the gold medal to cap his topsy-turvy tennis season.

Mohammed Amir and Segun Monday from Akwa-Ibom and Oyo States respectively won the bronze medals for their efforts during the tournament.

Niger State was quite emphatic in the boys Doubles final as the Bello brothers, Shamsudeen and Yahuza struck gold in their match against the Akwa-Ibom pair of Mohammed Amir and Wisdom Effiong who should be proud of their silver medal feat.

Chibueze Nweke and Chimobi Onuegbu, his partner from Imo State, ensured that they didn’t return home without a medal in the boys Doubles event as they shared the bronze medals with Philips Nondi and David Apev from Benue State.

Team Lagos pocketed the gold medal in the girls Doubles event when Bright Emmanuel teamed up with Ndifreke Benjamin to defeat Ekiti State’s Gloria Samuel and Goodnews Aina who will be cursing their luck with their silver medals wins at the 2024 National Youth Games.

FCT’s only medal at the 2024 National Youth Games came when Bebe Emmanuella and Salvation Alex won the girls Doubles bronze medals alongside Prosper Ohimai and Lorelay Holzendorff from Edo State.

Bright Emmanuel from Lagos picked her third gold medal at the 2024 National Youth Games when she partnered Joel Benjamin, also from the Apapa Tennis Club, Lagos, to win the Mixed Doubles event.

They defeated the Ekiti pair of Seyi Ogunsakin and Goodnews Aina, making it a third silver medal for Ekiti at the 2024 Games.

Ondo State’s Gbolahan Olawale and Sarah Adisa alongside Chibueze Nweke and Favour Lucky from Imo State took the Mixed Doubles bronze medal.

At the end of the competition, Lagos State led the medals’ table with their three gold medals from three events, an unprecedented return at this year’s tournament.
