I Want To Break Serena Williams’s Grand Slam Record – Oyinlomo

As weird as it may sound, Nigeria’s young tennis sensation, Oyinlomo Quadre says she wants to break the grand slam record of her tennis idol, Serena Williams.

Quadre, once ranked about 289 in world junior tennis, played to the second round of the Lagos Open International Tennis Championships in the first leg and put up a good fight before losing in the first round of the second leg.

In an exclusive interview with Nigerian Tennis Live on the sidelines of the competition, the youngster noted that she believes she can break the record of most slam wins by the female tennis legend if she continues with her consistency on the court.
Oyinlomo believes that she can break the record of the world tennis superstar.
Quadre has had a fantastic twist to her tennis career recently, winning four ITF Junior Circuit tournaments across West Africa within four weeks of stiff competition from other world junior players.

And after getting a Wild Card to participate in the Lagos Open Main Draws, she believes it is time to go for pre-season but will first return to Morocco for a two-week long tournament.

She said: “Before I finish with the juniors, I want to be within the top 100 in the world. I have about three more years and if I play more tournaments, I know that I can get to the top 100.”

Asked how she has fared since she left for the ITF Development Centre in Morocco, Quadre, who boasts an impeccable work rate on the court, explained that she is a better player in all areas.

Oyinlomo will continue her tennis development in Morocco in the coming months.
I have gained a lot of experience in the past five years, I must confess. I have learnt to control myself more. I’m stronger now, mentally,” the Aces Tennis Academy player explained.

On what her ultimate goal in tennis is, Quadre stated in clear terms “I want to break Serena Williams’s Grand Slam record.”

Adding: “It sounds crazy, but I won’t call it crazy because I believe it’s achievable.

“Age is still on my side, so nothing is impossible.”

The double-handed backhand player is expected to depart the shores of the Nigeria for Morocco any moment from now as she continues with her tennis development.

Nigerian Tennis Live will keep monitoring the player’s progress in the sport and inform our teeming audience as she grows.
