Budding tennis sensations from Oyo State, Mabubat Razaki and Ashim Gahzal are the cynosure of all eyes after their impeccable performance over the weekend.

The pair were the undisputed winners of the recently held Stars Enclave U-12 closed tournament in Oyo State, but they are not newcomers to tennis.

Mabubat was a finalist at the recently held Gbolahan Odele Junior Tennis Championship in Lagos, where she lost to Omoyinka Ayinla, who was also winning her first ever tournament.

Her tennis growth has been impeccable and she has proven with her consistency that she is one of those players Nigerians can bank on for future national competitions.

Ashim on the other hand, has been on the uprise since his participation at the 2023 CBN Open Junior Tennis Championship in Lagos.

At the Gbolahan Odele tournament in Lagos, he raised eyebrows with his performance and the Oyo player has now capped those performances with a title in his home State.

Mabubat defeated Barakat Ganiyu to clinch the girls’ title while Ashim was the best boys’ player while Precious Robert came second during the competition.

Coach Tirimisiyu Ganiyu, coordinator of the competition, was full of praise for Barrister Odunayo Williams Usigbe, sponsor and initiator of the event.

According to him: “We thank God almighty Allah for making this programme a successful one. We started on Monday and we were able to finish on Saturday.

“I really want to appreciate the sponsor of this programme, Barrister Odunayo Williams Usigbe, for his initiative and for his commitment, for his funding and everything that made the tournament a good success.

“The aim and objective of this tournament was to identify the talents which we have done. We have spotted some good talents from this programme whom we shall monitor and make sure that they are up to international standard.

“We are glad that this tournament went well and we hope that next year, it will be bigger. Maybe we will have a southwest derby if not a national event. We really thank God and we appreciate the sponsor of the Stars Enclave Tennis Academy”.

The week-long event was held inside the tennis section of the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibada, Oyo State.
