EXCLUSIVE: Expect About 12 Senior National Tournaments – NTF President

Nigerian tennis players in the country can heave a sigh of relief going by the statement made by the president of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), Engr. Ifedayo Akindoju.

The newly-inaugurated president assured the players of at least 12 senior national tournaments in a calendar year.

In an exclusive chat with Naija Tennis Special, the tennis enthusiast stated that tennis in the country will experience a massive turnaround since the inauguration of the newly-elected executives of the federation.

According to him, some of the former tournaments will be revisited and new ones will be added in the course of the year because the players need more of these tournaments for their development and progress in the game.

He explained therefore, that: “for senior tournaments, we cannot have less than 12 in a year.

“The NPA Open will return, they have a four-year contract with us which has not expired. So, we will have to revisit that.

“We are also getting a lot of goodwill from international companies. We are currently in talks with Joma and they are ready (in principle) in the area of kitting our players for tournaments.”

With the words of assurance by the NTF president, the players can now be more focused on the tournaments as well as the ongoing NCC Tennis League, a way of returning our sport back to its golden years.
