Double For Ray! Egbeyemi Strikes Again, Wins Two Titles In Warwick

Murewa Egbeyemi has continued his impressive run of wins in the United Kingdom after winning multiple titles during a recent tournament in Warwick.

Recall that the youngster popularly and affectionately called Ray has been hugging the headlines since he moved from Nigeria to the United Kingdom where he currently lives with his family.

His tennis prowess and ability to displace players in categories above his age have made him a delight to watch, especially after going neck-to-neck with U-18 players and defeating them in grand style.

Egbeyemi, seeded one for the event, started the onslaught by overpowering Lionel Zhang in two straight sets of 6-1, 6-3 to set up a clash against Alistair Jennings, the tournament’s number three seed.

Jennings’s performance at the event had been extremely impressive until he met the Nigerian wonderkid. He needed a super tiebreak to win his previous match, but could not re-enact that fighting spirit against his opponent.

Nigeria’s Egbeyemi, thus, defeated Jennings in two straight sets of 6-4, 6-1 to exert his dominance in the championship and qualify for the finals of the event which he won convincingly as well.

Not only did the former national U-12 champion in Nigeria win the Singles finals, he also copped the trophy in the Doubles event to end the competition as the undisputed champion.

His excited dad, while sharing the news with our correspondent, simply wrote: “Double for Ray. He won U-14 Singles and Doubles”.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep tabs on this young man who continues to defy the odds to show how big a talent he is and how blessed Nigeria is to have such talents at their disposal.
