Nigeria Tennis Live scoops have it that the Nigeria Tennis Federation has concluded plans to add new national tournaments to the local tennis circuit, bringing the number of competitions to about six.

This information was made available to our correspondent during a chat with Engr. Dayo Akindoju, the president of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF).

    • Joseph Imeh won the last national tournament played in the country.

Recall that in a recent publication, Nigeria Tennis Live quoted the president as saying that there are plans to move two national tournaments to the first half of the year to help prepare the players for the ITF tournaments that holds within that period of the year.

He mentioned the Brains and Hammers, a new tournament may be played before the ITF World Tour competition and has added that there will also be an FCT Open competition which is a done deal.

“I already mentioned that the Brains and Hammers might be shifted to March after the Vemp Open, to help the players get physically fit for the World Tour.

“There’s also the FCT Open which is already closed. The date for all these tournaments will be communicated to the general public in due course because we are presently trying to harmonise our plans for the year and smoothen things out,” Engr. Akindoju explained

If this new development materialises, the players will now have the CBN Open, Vemp Open, Dala Hard Court championship, Rainoil Tennis Open, Brains and Hammers Open and the FCT Open as the major national tournaments of the year.

Nigeria Tennis Live will update our followers with the latest development as regards these tournaments as planned by the NTF.
