DavNotch Open: W/C Entrant Kwange Reaches 2nd Round As Top Seeds Advance

Emmanuella Kwange, one of Nigeria’s youngsters who got a wild card to participate at the DavNotch National Tennis Championship, has reached the second round of the tournament.

Niger-based Kwange who is one of Nigeria’s promising juniors, is playing in this competition as a result of her talent and due to her reputation as one of Nigeria’s best young players, and she did well to reach the second round of the event.

During the match played on Tuesday inside the Package B of the National Stadium in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital, the young Kwange defeated Favour Godwin, who qualified for the Main Draw of the event from the preliminaries in two sets of 6-1, 6-2.

The teenager will come up against Patience Onebamhion, the competition’s number eight seed and one of the more experienced players at the tournament, in the second round of the tournament.

Also, Etoro Bassey ensured her spot in the second round of the event by defeating Amieyefuri Jim-Jaja 6-1, 6-2, to set up a second round meeting with VEMP Open winner, Blessing Omotayo.

Toluwalashe Agunbiade, who also reached the Main Draw via a wild card, defeated fellow Wild Card entrant, Precious Ohimai 6-1, 6-2 and will now face Favour Moses, the tournament’s number six seed.

In the Men’s Singles event, number two seed, Henry Atseye, struggled a bit, but was strong enough to see off Stephen James, in three sets. He won 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 to set up a second round match up against Suleiman Ibrahim, one of the Lucky Losers in the Main Draw.

Mubarak Ganiyu, one of Nigeria’s bright junior players, was exciting in his match against Michael Emmanuel before letting his opponent off the hook and paying severely for it in a three-set battle on the court

The former Ibadan-based youngster had taken the first set 6-3, but could not hold on to the lead as his opponent came back strong in the second and final sets, winning 6-3, 6-0 to move to the second round of the championship.
