Davis Cup: Sylvester Reacts To National Team Snub, Sets New Target
Nigeria’s number one male tennis player, Sylvester Emmanuel, is not really disturbed about his exclusion from the Davis Cup team presently competing in Nairobi, Kenya.
In a chat with Nigeria Tennis Live, the back-to-back Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Open national champion was dropped from the team for the first time in three editions with new players preferred instead.
Major, as the talented player is fondly called, explained that he’d rather not talk about the Davis Cup competition exclusion, as he is presently focused on the task ahead.
According to him: “I really do not want to talk about the Davis Cup.
“Just working on my game ahead of the Lagos open.”
When pushed further to reveal the reason for his decision to keep mum, he replied: “nothing much.”
He would finally add that he’s presently training hard for the competition and having a good time with his family.
“Like is said I’m just training and having a good time with my family.”
On what his other plans for the remainder of the year are, the former Barcelona, Spain-based tennis player noted that he’d just take them one at a time.
“I can’t really say but I will take it step by step as it comes my way,” the 2014 Rainoil Tennis Masters winner added.
Team Nigeria will be working really hard to gain promotion from their present Africa World Group III, a position which has eluded them year in year out.
