Joseph Imeh is leading the charge for glory at the inaugural edition of the Davenotch National Open Tennis Championship in Abuja.

With the absence of Sylvester Emmanuel from the Nigerian tennis circuit, the onus fell on Imeh to enter the tournament as the top seed, and battle for the top prize.

Among the top seeds in the Men’s Singles are Uche Oparaoji, Michael Chima, Clifford Enosoregbe, Musa Mohammed, Shehu Lawal and Nonso Madueke.

Legendary Abdulmumin Babalola who recently won gold for Team Oyo at the National Sports Festival in Edo State, will also be in contention for the big prize in Abuja, Nigeria Tennis Live gathered.

Imeh will have to be at his incredible best when he takes on these players in the debut competition taking place inside the tennis section of the National Stadium, Abuja.

Morocco-based Oyinlomo Quadre, is expectedly the female top seed in the Women’s Singles, and Doubles.

Alongside Quadre, Marylove Edwards, Anu Aiyegbusi, Sarah Adegoke are the other top players expected to battle for the ultimate prize at the Davenotch championship.

The female players, most of whom were at the National Sports Festival in Edo State, will be optimistic of their chances of making something big of the championship.

They shone like millions in the competition and would have used it as a fitness test ahead of the National Championship.

The Wheelchair tennis players will also feature in the competition which kicks off on Monday, 17 May, 2021.

Regular suspects, Alex Adewale, Wasiu Yusuf, Kafayat Omisore and Kemi Oluwasegun are expected to light up the courts in Abuja for the next one week.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep our audience up to date with all the news from the competition which is the first of the year 2021.
