Nigeria’s talented tennis youngster, MaryLove Edwards, has received the Sports Personality of the Year award, Naija Tennis Special has gathered.

The young lady who is said to be on her way to a tennis academy in the United States was decorated by organisers of the Nigerian Child Awards (NICA) on Sunday, August 20, at the Oriental Hotels in Lekki axis of Lagos state.

MaryLove who is under the sponsorship of Temple Management Company, has shone like millions in recent year, rising to becoming the national champion in different age categories.

After receiving the award this weekend, the youngster expressed her delight at picking up such a prestigious award, telling her fans and sponsors that she would get better in the coming years and repay the faith they have in her.

Coach Kayode Savage, who has been handling MaryLove since she was much younger, was elated with the girl’s progress in the game, especially with how she made it to the final of the Senior CBN Open in 2017.

“That is to show that a lot of people have been monitoring our progress. And it’s a serious task for her as she works hard and continues to stay focused.

“I am actually very overwhelmed with joy and I want to give kudos to the organizers of the event,” an excited Savage told Naija Tennis Special.

NICA is the first national award entirely dedicated to celebrating the Nigerian Children. They give recognition to children within the ages of 6 to 15 years with exceptional abilities, who display outstanding bravery and inspire other children with their actions in different fields such as academics, arts, culture and sports.
