Nigerian Players may have to tarry a little more than they have, over the expected announcement of a date for the Annual Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Senior Tennis Open.
The tournament which would have ideally be concluded or be nearing its end at this time of the year, is yet to get a date as Nigerian players appear more frustrated by the passing of each day over their non-participation in national championships.
Engr. Dayo Akindoju, the NTF President, says the federation is still waiting on the organisers of the CBN Open for a date. |
Already, there have been three weeks of non-stop ITF Futures in Abuja, where no Nigerian player made it to the quarterfinals of the money-spinning pro circuit, and there are no signs that the first national tournament will hold in the country any time soon.
The President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), Engr. Dayo Akindoju, in a brief chat with Nigerian Tennis Live, revealed that the organisers of the tournament had yet to give a word on the date.
He noted that the federation was waiting on them to get a final date before proceeding with the announcement to the players and others involved in the tournament’s organization.
“What they have been saying is that there is no go ahead yet from the hierarchy, and since they are the ones to sponsor it, we will have to wait for them,” Engr. Akindoju noted.
Already, the NTF informed Nigerian tennis players that there would be a N10million ‘Nigerian Grand Slam’ which they are already looking forward to.
Nigerian Tennis Live will keep tabs on the NTF board to get more updates about the planned tournaments for the remaining half of the year.
