CBN Junior: Organizers Introduce Grand Slam Scoring Format

The organizers of the ongoing Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Junior Tennis Championship in Lagos have introduced an interesting scoring format for matches.

About 100 young tennis players from different parts of the country are currently in Lagos for the junior tennis championship which served off on Tuesday, 3 September, 2024.

Mr. Godwin Kienka, Director of the International Tennis Academy, organizers of the annual event, informed the kids during the competition, that they will be practicing an unusual format for scoring this week.

During the matches played on Tuesday at the CBN Juniors, the scoring format deployed was a 10-point tie break best of three sets which the players had gotten accustomed to.

However, at the end of the day’s activities, Kienka informed the players and their coaches that the competition will continue with a best of five sets.

According to him: “You’ll still play the ten-point tie break but it will best of five sets. We’re doing this because we are preparing you all for the biggest stage.

“You are all future champions and we are looking forward to seeing you on the international stage, so, get used to playing like those champions that you look up to”.

This new scoring format was applauded by the coaches and the parents on ground at the tennis section of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos State.
