BREAKING! Ogunsakin Overtakes Adeleye To Become Nigeria’s Top Ranked Junior ITF Player

Seun Ogunsakin has overtaken Daniel Adeleye to emerge as Nigeria’s highest ranked junior player on the ITF ranking, Nigeria Tennis Live reports.

Both players reached the quarterfinals of the J100 Harare event in Zimbabwe last week and were also finalists in the Doubles event.

However, the newly-released rankings by the ITF on Monday afternoon showed that it was Ogunsakin who made a higher leap than his Ekiti State compatriot.

The former number one African U-14 player is now ranked 319 on the world junior rankings after moving 15 places upwards on the ladder while Adeleye, who also moved 10 places, is now rated 323 in the world junior rankings.

Consequently, Ogunsakin is now rated 15th in Africa while Adeleye moved to 16th on the log of African players on the junior ITF rankings.

Both players have also been listed in the Main Draw of the second week at the J100 Harare event in Zimbabwe, where wins for them will surely push them further upwards on the world junior rankings.

Their female counterpart, Ohunene Yakubu, who reached the third round of the J100 Harare competition last week, dropped a spot on the rankings to rank 440 in the world.

Despite the drop, Yakubu is still the 18th highest ranked junior female tennis player on the African continent and the number one from Nigeria.

The Nigerian youngsters will be on the courts again this week, to try to consolidate their ranking spots and move even further up the ladder in the coming months before this tennis season wraps up.
