Tamara Curovic, the number eight seed at the ongoing Lagos Open International Tennis Championship has retired in the second set of her match against Nigeria’s Oyinlomo Quadre.
Quadre battled to a 6-2 win against the Serbian player in the first set before breaking the top seed in the second set before the former retired due to injury.
The Nigerian player has now become the first female player to reach the quarterfinal of the event in as many years and will hope to keep us with her momentum in the competition.
Prior to the tournament, Quadre had expressed her desire to play up to the quarterfinal stage of the ITF World Tour, and this almost certainly means her dream has come through.
Many Nigerians who watched the youngster dazzle on Thursday had nothing but praise for the brave youngster who’s Africa’s number four ranked junior star.
