BREAKING: Brave Sylvester Loses To No 4 Seed, Crashes Out In Q/F

Nigeria’s tennis sensation , Sylvester Emmanuel who turned heads with a sterling performance on Wednesday night has been dumped out of the Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship, after losing 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 to Maamoun Karim-Mohammed, Naija Tennis Special can report.

Major, as the former Dala Hard court winner is being fondly called by his Nigerian fans and friends, had lost the first round in a rather overwhelming manner before coming back in the second round with a sterling performance.

A disappointed Sylvester strolls away after losing his quarter-final match to Maamoun of Egypt

But, the player seemed to have cupped a thigh injury which forced him to play most parts of the game in pains amid the cheers by fans at the court 2 of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club.

His attention will now he shifted to the doubles event where he will pair Duncan Mugabe to tackle the Polish pair of Drzewiecki Karol and Smola Maciej in the quarter final.

Up next is the singles quarter final match between Nigeria’s former number one player, Clifford Enosoregbe and Mukund Sasi Kumar of India.

The match is seen as the only hope for a Nigerian player to advance to the semis of the tournament for the first time in years, as the Nigerian hopes to move one further than the young Sylvester.

“That match against the Indian is one to die for,” Clifford told Naija Tennis Special on the sidelines before the match.

The Edo-based player, who was tipped by another Indian to be among the top 500 in the world will be riding on his luck from the second round upset of number eight seed, Smola Maciej from Poland.
