BACK WITH A BANG: Nigeria To Host Wheelchair Tennis Futures In Abuja

After being without a tournament of their own in the past few years, wheelchair tennis players will be treated to top tennis action when the Puma Engineering Wheelchair Open takes centre stage in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital.

Nigerian Tennis Live gathered that the tournament which is a newly-introduced Futures series will attract wheelchair tennis players from about five countries or more for the $3,500 competition.

Wheelchair tennis players in Nigeria will have a feel of ITF Futures in Abuja at the end of October.

This piece of information was made available to our correspondent by Engr. Sani Ndanusa, the immediate past president of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), who noted that Nigerian wheelchair tennis players are still among the best on the continent regardless of their inability to get as many tournaments.

“There shall be a big wheelchair tennis championship in Abuja at the end of the month, and it is about what the players need to get better on the big stage.

“Players from about five African countries will be in Nigeria for the competition and I can assure you that Nigeria is still at the pinnacle in African wheelchair tennis,” Ndanusa stated.

As at the time of filing this report, the rankings of the players attending the tournament could not be ascertained yet as the details were not on the ITF website yet.

Nigerian Tennis Live will keep monitoring the event and inform our esteemed audience on the latest development from the tournament.
