The victory of Nigeria’s U-16 boys at the just concluded ITF/CAT AJC Qualifiers has ensured a return of the country to the Main AJC for the first time in three years.

Nigeria Tennis Live reports that the U-16 boys clinched gold in the team event after an amazing run of results in the second round of matches in the qualifying series.

They deservedly secured a return for the country’s to the main African Junior Tennis Championships which will be hosted by Togo in April, 2020.

This also means that Nigeria is staging a return to the big stage in African Juniors after being absent from the competition in about 36months.

Coach Ubale Mohammed, a revered national junior tennis coach, confirmed this in a chat with Nigeria Tennis Live, explaining that it is a great development for Nigerian tennis.

“Yes, the last time we went to the main AJC was in 2017, so returning to the competition now is a really good one for us.

“I wasn’t there, and I’ve just heard the information from you, but I’m glad that we’ve qualified again for the main AJC,” Coach Ubale stated.

The players came third overall in the competition after emerging first in the boys 16, second in the boys 14, girls came third in the 16 & 14 cadres as well, to ensure that Nigeria secured a podium place finish.

Nigeria Tennis Live can report that the players are already on their way to Lagos after an eventful tournament in, Lomé, Togo.
