Amasiani Brothers Dominate Chevron Junior Tennis Masters

Abuja-based Chukwudubem and Chukwubuikem Amasiani are run away winners at the recently-concluded Chevron Junior Tennis Masters in Lagos.

The famous Amasiani brothers, renown for their ‘beast mode’ on the court, won in two of three categories they competed in at the annual event.

The Chevron Masters featuring competitions in three age groups – boys and girls 12s, 14s & 16s – was held inside the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos, from Tuesday 5 December to Saturday, 9 December, 2023.

The tournament saw a display of very high skill levels in all the categories and the Amasiani brothers, who shone like stars, claimed two of the many titles available.

The younger Amasiani, Chukwbuikem, started the triumph by getting the better of Adeiza Yakubu from Lagos in the boys 12 final.

The southpaw player is fast becoming one of the players to watch out for in Nigeria after recently defeating many players who are above his age range.

His more experienced 12-year-old elder brother, aka Duby, played in the 14 and 16 categories at the championship, and won the boys 14, defeating Seyi Ogunsakin, another talented and promising player.

Chevron Junior Tennis Master

Duby’s nemesis in the boys 16 event, Gbolahan Olawale from Ondo State, won the title after defeating Yohana Yakubu from Abuja in the finale.

Top Nigerian junior player, Mofifunoluwa Atilola from Lagos State, lived up to her pre-tournament billing, as she defeated Salvation Alex from Abuja, in a keenly contested encounter.

The General Manager, Policy and Government Affairs of Chevron, Ebimaje Brikinn, in his address, said Chevron Nigeria was very happy with the impact the program has made these past 20 years in producing champions and engaging and empowering Nigerian youth and appreciated all those who have contributed in one way or the other to the success story. The GM was represented by Mrs Ebisan Akinsanya.

The Honourable Minister of Sports Senator John Owan Enoh, who was represented, said he would ensure that all sports under the ministry got all the support and attention they need to engage and empower the youth as well as produce world class talent.

He commended the sponsors for their consistency and high standard and the International Tennis Academy, organizers of the program, for the passion and determination to impact sports in Nigeria.
