Algeria AJC: Ogunsakin To Face Egyptian As Khadijat Ambushes Okomo

Seun Ogunsakin, one of the seeded players at the ongoing African Junior Championship (AJC) in Algeria will open his account against Mostafa Samih from Egypt.

Even though the U-16 AJC event served off on Monday, 15 April, 2024, the talented Nigerian player is playing his first match today.

The Tunisia-based Nigerian youngster is one of the top players at the tournament, having risen to become the African number one U-14 player in the last year.

Also, Khadijat Mohammed, one of Nigeria’s youngsters to the African Junior Championships will be taking on Equatorial Guinea’s Modjo Okomo to secure a second round berth.

She told Nigeria Tennis Live that she is very prepared for the tournament, and one of the reasons she had to play at the TPPA-UTR Nationals was to have adequate preparations ahead of the competition.

“I feel very prepared for the AJC in Algeria. The major reason I came for the National Tournament was to have a proper warm up ahead of the AJC event.

“I feel like if I can go far, it will get me more exposed and I’ll have the confidence to start playing better,” Mohammed said.

The third Nigerian participating in the tournament, Ohunene Yakubu, is among the top seeded players, so, she got a bye and will wait until the second round before playing her first match.

Both Yakubu and Mohammed will partner to play in the Girls’ Doubles event while Ogunsakin is partnering Rosa De Arauje from Mozambique in the Boys’ Doubles.
