Seun Ogunshakin has consolidated on his impressive performance against the Beninoise on Wednesday, with another big win against his Togolese opponenet on Thursday evening at the ongoing African Junior Tennis Championship qualifiers presently holding in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
Nigeria Tennis Live gathered that the youngster who lost his doubles match with his Nigerian counterpart on Wednesday, made up for the loss with a victory against Team Togo.
According to Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), Xavier Gakpo of Togo had no answer to the brilliance and intelligence of Seun as the Nigerian soundly defeated him in straight sets of 6-0, 6-2.
In similar fashion, Precious Ikeuba got a second victory for Nigeria against Togo, as he defeated Enock Lawson in two clear sets of 6-0, 6-0, to ensure that Nigeria led the Togolese in the singles matches ahead of the doubles fixtures.
In the girls’ category, Nigeria Tennis Live can report that Salamatu Haruna registered Nigeria’s first win on Day 2 of the qualifying series.
After dominating the 1st set 6-1, Ijeoma Udensi of Benin Republic raced into a 4-2 lead in the 2nd set, but Salamatu took four straight games to win in straight sets ending the match at 6-1 6-4.
But the Nigerian girls could not sustain the momentum against the Benin Republic players, as they lost the Doubles and the second Singles match.
They lost the Doubles in two sets of 3-6, 5-7 and crashed to the host team in a tough encounter on Thursday evening.
Team Nigeria will continue their quest to ensure they come out tops in the qualifying series in order to participate in the main event which is coming up later, and Nigeria Tennis Live will keep our followers up to date with the latest development.
