Nigeria’s contingent to the qualifiers of the African Junior Tennis Championships have advanced to the semifinals of the team events of the qualifying series taking place in Togo.
The players had shone like millions in the Singles events where they made clear their intentions of retaining their number one spot which they have bossed for the seven consecutive years, and made their doubles count almost twice as nice with their advancement in the team events.

Reports reaching Nigerian Tennis Live have it the Oyinlomo Barakat and Oiza Yakubu gave their opponents a tough time in the doubles event as they advanced to the semifinals with a 3-0 rout of Benin Republic in the process.
Oyinlomo ensured a 6-0, 6-1 win against Benin’s number one U-16 player while Oiza humbled her opponent in two straight sets of 6-3, 6-3 and both players formed a formidable partnership to see off the Beninoise 6-1, 6-2.
While their defeat against Benin Republic looked like a minced meat, the Nigerian girls also dealt Burkina Faso the same blow to ensure that they are the most feared side in Togo and can only be stopped by the host nation in their quest for qualification.
Our correspondent also gathered that the Boys’ U-14 team already landed in the semis of the qualifying series, and will fancy their chances of making it to the finals of the qualifiers.
