Abuja To Host CBN Senior Open For 2nd Consecutive Year As NTF Reveals Details
The annual Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Senior Tennis Championship will be hosted by Abuja for the second consecutive season as announced by the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF).
Nigeria Tennis Live had exclusively reported in 2018, how the sponsors were planning to move the competition to Abuja to mark the 40th year since the tournament started.
Even though it was met with a lot of reactions by the players, the decision to ditch Lagos after over three decades, remained, and this development seems to be continuing as the NTF revealed on its official website.
Our correspondent gathered that this year’s competition will hold from 20 – 29 June, 2019, as players are expected to start arriving from Thursday 20 June to participate in the preliminary round of matches.
It was further gathered that the reason the CBN Open will be played at the Tennis Section of the National Stadium, Abuja, is to ensure convenience of the players who will be participating.
Recall that Sylvester Emmanuel, Nigeria’s present number player, won the competition for the first time in 2018, and looks set to defend the title when hostilities begin in Abuja.
Sarah Adegoke, the former Nigerian number one, will hope to bounce back to the summit with her third consecutive win in the competition when she sets off against her counterparts.
Nigeria Tennis Live will bring pre-tournament updates for our esteemed readers and followers as the competition approaches, especially players’ expectations and target for the tournament.
