Abuja: Marylove Wins First Ever ITF Circuit Title As Jebutu, Abayomi Shine Too

Marylove Edwards over the weekend won her first ever Junior ITF title at the first leg of the Abuja ITF Junior Circuit in Nigeria.

The US-based teenage sensation was the tournament’s number one seed and lived up to her pre-tournament hype as she fought her way to the final and clinched her first ever title on the Junior Circuit.

Edwards was also a proud winner of the doubles event as she partnered Blanche Minet from Cote D’Ivoire to ensure Nigeria almost certainly had a clean sweep of the titles.

While the female titles were won including an Ivorian, the boys’ titles were totally dominated by Nigerians.

Pre-tournament favorite, Abayomi Philips already faltered in the quarterfinal of the singles’ event, but he partnered his friend, Emmanuel Jebutu, to win the doubles.

Jebutu himself was out of the competition only in the semis of the singles, but he made his efforts count when he and Philips were the stars of team event.

Canice Abua from Nigeria ensured a clean swoop of titles for Nigerians in the Junior ITF competition as he picked the boys singles.

The week two of the competition kicks off this week with the qualifying rounds starting on Monday, 11 November.
