Abuja Junior ITF Circuit Fallout: Nigeria’s Mohammed Leaps 595 Places, Phillips, Jebutu, Others Move Too

Even though he did not live to expectations as the tournament’s number one seed over two legs of Junior ITF competition in Abuja, Nigeria’s Abayomi Phillips has jumped further up the rankings.

Phillips was rated as one of the best players to participate in the two-week long competition but was unable to win any, reaching quarterfinals in one and losing in the final of the other.

These results, however, did not affect his upwards surge on the rankings as he moved 49 places up the ladder to become Africa’s number 21 best player and 476 in the world.

Feelers have it that he might be playing other ITF competitions before the end of the year to further boost his ranking and help him become a better player.

Other players were also not left out in the move, in fact, theirs were the biggest.

Emmanuel Jebutu, from being a world 2000 player, is not among the top 1000 in the world. He moved up 159 places to be ranked 956 on the log.

Mohammed Musa, winner of the second leg of the Abuja junior ITF Circuit, was obviously the biggest mover on the log as he jumped 595 places upwards to become world’s 869 ranked player.

Michael Osewa, Abua Canice and Daniel Joshua are also now ranked 1368, 1124 & 1426 in the latest rankings released by the ITF.
