Oyinlomo Quadre, the prodigiously talented young Nigerian tennis star, was the cynosure of all eyes after a whitewash of Christie Agugbom to clinch her first ever women’s singles title at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Senior Tennis Open Championship in Abuja.
Nigeria Tennis Live gathered that Quadre who entered the finals on the back of successive wins against other top Nigerian female players, dispatched her more experienced counterpart in two straight sets of 6-1, 6-0.
Tennis observers had noted that she was the most dreaded female player and the most in form, and she proved this by winning the championship without dropping a set.
With this win, Quadre who entered the tournament as a wild card player, will take home the two major trophies from the tournament, having first won the doubles against the same opponent.
Nigeria’s number one male tennis player, Sylvester Emmanuel, also lived up to the billing as the topmost player in the country by defeating the ageless Abdulmumin Babalola in straight sets to retain the Men’s Singles Title at the CBN Senior Open.
The former Barcelona, Spain-based player ensured that Babalola was denied his seventh CBN Open Title by charging against the legendary player from the first set
He won in two sets to ensure he took the title back to back, the first of its kind in recent years.
