Dayak Open: Joseph Imeh Battles Brazilian Top Seed For Quarterfinal Berth
Joseph Imeh, the only Nigerian in the second round of the ongoing Dayak Tennis Championship in Abuja, will need to be at his fiercest best to dislodge Joao Pedro Sorgi, the Brazilian number eight seed he’s playing against on Thursday, 18 April.
Nigeria Tennis Live reports that Imeh, Nigeria’s number two male tennis player, made light his first round match against fellow Nigerian, Emmanuel Audu, in two straight sets of 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the second round of the ITF World Tour event holding in Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital.
The tournament which is in its second week has never been won by any Nigerian since the inception of the competition several years ago, and Imeh, who is about the highest ranked local star, will look to do something unusual.
Imeh, who became the Nigerian number one male tennis player without winning a tournament, will be cheered on by the local supporters who will be hoping to have at least, one Nigerian player in the next round of the money spinning event.
The Dayak Tennis Open is the second of a three-week long period of tennis carnival which often lights up the Package B of the National Stadium in Abuja, and will be closely followed by the GSL Open.
Nigeria Tennis Live will keep up with updates on the tournament and report to our teeming audience.
