The newly-elected President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), Victor Ochei, has assured Nigerian tennis players that they will get enough tournaments to participate in.
Ochei was elected as the new president of the NTF on Saturday, 25 October, after polling a massive 11-1 votes against his contender, Mrs. Okauru, and was inaugurated shortly after during a ceremony held inside the National Stadium, Abuja.
After the election, he spoke exclusively with Nigeria Tennis Live on his plans as the new president of the NTF, despite only just taking the mantle of leadership.

On his reason for wanting to become the NTF President, the sponsor of the annual DavNotch Open, stated that “the love of the sport” was his first reason.
“The game of tennis has gone beyond recreation, it has become a whole ecosystem. Tennis has transformed so quickly that we if we don’t put our best foot forward, we will be lagging,” the former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly began.
Speaking further, he said: “My interest is also to take Nigerian tennis from where it is to the next level. It is not just about the players and playing, even the spectators are part of this ecosystem.
“We will be looking at where we have gone wrong and also look out for the changes that we can bring in as the new NTF Board”.

The number one interest of players is the availability of tournaments to compete in, and when Mr. Ochei was asked if he is able to assure Nigerian tennis players of new tournaments, he had this to say.
“Assurance? Whatever our capacity is today in terms of tournaments, we can increase it, within a very short time. Rest assured, you will see tournaments; not just in Abuja, we will take it to the zones, and we are breaking barriers” he noted.
