Aminu Ibrahim, a Nigerian tennis youngster, got the better of his Indian opponent to reach the second round of the ongoing J30 Abuja event.
The Nigerian got a wild card to participate in the competition which has players from across the globe in attendance, and justified his inclusion by coming up clutch in his first round match.
The Abuja-based tennis player defeated unseeded Manan DhirSheetal Taneja Dhir from India in two straight set that ended 6-3, 6-1 and will now face Ezekiel Azi for a place in the competition’s quarterfinal.

Youngster Chukwudubem Amasiani, another wild card entrant, playing in his first ever junior ITF competition, could not withstand the firepower of his opponent, losing in two straight sets.

Amasiani, tipped to be the Nigerian version of Spanish tennis sensation, Carlos Alcaraz, was trumped in his opening match at the J30 event. He lost 2-6, 2-6 to Hengzhi Cui from China.
In an interesting fixture slated for Wednesday, 4 June, 2025, Lagos-based David Edwards and Heman Afaramai will go head-to-head in what promises to be cracker, for a spot in the quarterfinals of the event.

Both players from Lagos got byes in the first round and are now set for a showdown between two of the more talented tennis youngsters from Nigeria.
Also, the top seeds in both the boys’ and girls’ Singles, Lucky Danjuma and Ohunene Yakubu, are expected to be in action for their first matches after getting byes in the opening rounds of the competition.
The J30 Abuja event will be holding across two legs inside the tennis section of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Package B, Abuja.
