The opening of the newly-constructed tennis facility in Ilara was one of the biggest sporting activities in Ogun State on Tuesday, 7 January, 2025.

Not only did the Rock Tennis Foundation, the brain behind the facility, pull the State’s Commissioner for Sports to the event, they were also able to host prominent people in the State.

Their presence at the opening of the standard tennis facility in the farm settlement was a clear indication of how much importance was placed on the sports development plan in the State.

Nigeria Tennis Live also gathered that the kids, many of whom were seeing the facility for the first time ever, were excited about the latest development and could not hide their smile during the opening.

Wasiu Isiaka, the Ogun Sports Commissioner, who attended the event in person, was full of praises for the Rock Tennis Foundation and the brain behind the project, noting that it goes in tandem with the State’s plans to develop sports.

“What we are building up with the National Sports Festival is not just an event that will happen alone, we actually want to leverage on it to develop sports in Ogun State (sic).

“And that is the reason why you see the kind of investment the government is putting in sports and sports facilities in Ogun State. When you get to Abeokuta now, you’ll see what is happening there.

“We are the possibility of having a Games Village in Abeokuta. Before now, we used to have only the Stadium at the MKO Sports Centre, but now, we have lawn tennis, we have handball court there now, we have cricket there, we are still going to have so many events there,” the Sports Commissioner was quoted to have said.

The Royal Father of the day and paramount ruler of Ilara, Oba (Dr.) Mutiu Adedimeji Oyede-Lawal, Oloola of Ilara, was looking all resplendent and proud of the development brought to Ilara by the Rock Tennis Foundation through one of her members.

According to him: “He has done a really good thing by bringing this tennis facility to Ilara. He could have decided to take it elsewhere, but he chose Ilara. We are indeed grateful”.

Apart from organizing a tennis clinic for the new generation of tennis youngsters in the community, Rock Tennis Foundation also presented some tennis kits and gift items to them to help them kickstart their tennis career.

Attention will now shift to the flagship event of the Foundation inside the tennis section of Abeokuta Sports Centre, where the annual junior tennis competition and clinic will start on Thursday, 9 January, 2025, and end on Saturday, 11 January, 2025.
