J60 Accra: Adeleye, Okonkwo In Q/Final As Ogunjobi, Agboola Impress

Nigerian players at the ongoing J60 Accra event in Ghana have continued their impressive runs at the competition, reaching the quarterfinals yet again.

The likes of Daniel Adeleye and Prosperity Ikenna Okonkwo have secured their spots in the quarterfinal of the tournament after some interesting wins on match day two.

While Adeleye, who has had a brilliant start to the week three of the J60 event, crushed Wild Card entrant Oluwajomiloju Aminu 6-2, 7-5, Okonkwo was made to fight for his win against Ori Hillel, his opponent from Israel.

The J30 Accra winner won a final set battle against Hillel which ended 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 to set up a quarterfinal clash against Raphael Nii Ankrah from Ghana.

Meanwhile, Ayomipo Agboola took a giant stride towards reaching the quarterfinal of a J60 event for the very first time after beating Ghana’s Kwame Obeng Entie in a final set tie.

Agboola who played what looked like the best tennis of this week, ensured he came out tops with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 win to square up against the tournament’s number eight seed, Ilia Mehrabani, for a slot in the quarterfinal.

Mubarak Ganiyu and Yahaya Sani Inabo will decide which Nigerian player will join others in the quarterfinal when they clash in a rematch of their encounter in Abuja earlier this year.

Ganiyu, the number six seed at the J60 Accra, is just one win away from reaching another J60 quarterfinal spot while Inabo will be hoping to impress in Ghana as things have not gone his way all week.

In the girls’ event, Success Ogunjobi beat Benedicta Kotey 6-0, 6-1 and will now play against Sasha Natalie Chimedza, the number one seed from Zimbabwe, for a quarterfinal place.

The Ekiti-born tennis youngster who has been trying to re-enact her deadly form, is one of the players whom spectators have been keeping an eye on for her eye-catching performances in recent weeks.

Bright Emmanuel, meanwhile, had a walk over in her first match and her only hope to reach the quarterfinal is to defeat the number three seed, in Leila Akhmetova.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep monitoring the activities of the players at the competition in Ghana and share all the updates with all our esteemed readers.
