Goodluck Tersoo Storms Into Two Finals As CBN Juniors Climaxes In Lagos

Goodluck Tersoo proved to be the most outstanding junior tennis player around after racing to the finals of two events at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Junior Tennis Open in Lagos.

The Benue-born youngster who has been in devastating form for the past few weeks, winning all the tournaments he has participated in, has reached the Boys U-12 & 14 finals at the CBN Junior event inside the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos.

Not only did Tersoo win convincingly in the U-12 category, he created an unprecedented upset to reach the finals of the U-14 category after defeating fans’ favourite, Wisdom Effiong, in the semifinal of the event.

He will be in contention for the U-14 title when he takes on Yahaya Isa in the final while Chukwubuikem Amasiani stands on his way to an U-12 title.

Mofifunoluwa Atilola

In the Girls U-12 final, vastly improved Mabubat Rasaki will be targeting her first national title when she comes up against Success Godwin.

Mofifunoluwa Atilola who reached two semis is in the finals of the Girls U-14 after defeating Favour James, in a thrilling match. The 10-year-old will square up against Bisola Ogunkolade for her inaugural U-14 title.

In an all-Ekiti final, Goodnews Aina and Gloria Samuel will battle for the Girls U-16 title after both winning their semifinal matches against Alice Paul and Mofifunoluwa Atilola respectively.

Amasiani

The most anticipated match of the day will be between Chukwudubem Amasiani and David Edwards who will be playing against each other in the Boys U-16 final.

Amasiani, nicknamed Alcaraz for his relentlessness on the court and for his ability to weather any storm, will be facing a formidable opponent in Edwards, generally referred to as Federer for his one-handed backhand which he deploys to perfection.

Matches are expected to start by 2pm inside the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos, on Saturday, 7 September, 2024, as the CBN Junior Championship reaches its climax.
