Thomas Otu and Clifford Enosoregbe have advanced to the second round of the ongoing Tombim Abuja Open, Naija Tennis Special can report.

The players who were among the first set of Nigerians to open the tournament inside the Package B of the National Stadium, Abuja, venue of the ITF Futures, rallied to impressive wins which lasted a little over one hour each.

Enosoregbe, Nigeria’s former number one tennis player, has advanced to the second round of the competition

Otu claimed the scalp of fellow Nigerian tennis star, Henry Atseye, in a 6-3, 6-3 win while Enosoregbe, former Nigerian number one, saw off British player, Joe Cooper in a classic 6-4, 6-4 win.

Emmanuel Idoko, who stood little or no chance against  Brayden Schnur, the number two seeded player, retired in the first set of the game at 0-5 down while Imeh Joseph was sent packing by Zimbabwe’s Mark Fynn in an enthralling 6-2, 6-4 game.

Other Nigerian players who are yet to play their doubles matches as at the time of filing this report, include: Sylvester Emmanuel, Atseye, Clifford, Christian Paul, Aliyu Shehu, Joseph Edili, among other.

Results from other matches will be published before the end of today or as soon as the matches have been decided.
