Seyi Ogunsakin will be among the most excited Nigerian players participating at the ongoing J60 Abuja event in Nigeria’s Federal Capital after today’s matches.

Ogunsakin, one of the starlets of the J30 Abuja event which ended over the weekend, made sure he started the J60 Abuja event on a resounding note in two well-fought sets.

He defeated Toheed Oseni 7-6(5), 6-4 to reach the second round of the Junior ITF event where he will battle top junior, Yahaya Sani Inabo for a quarterfinal berth.

Another player who will be more than ecstatic about his result would be David Edwards, the younger brother of Nigerian number one, Marylove Edwards.

The younger Edwards played his hearts out when he came up against tough playing top junior player, Henry Aina, when the pair met in the first round of the J60 Abuja event.

In what is his first ever J60 competition, the TPPA-UTR National U-16 Champion came from a set down to win two tie-break sets and launch himself into the second round of the competition. He defeated Aina 2-6, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (2).

In the girls’ Singles matches, Goodnews Aina, another Ekiti State player, made it past her first opponent at a J60 event, as she defeated Eliana Chrys-Chikere from Australia in two straight sets of 6-2, 6-3.

The youngster who also won the National TPPA-UTR event will be excited after finally picking her first point at a Junior ITF event. But she will need to scale the hurdle of number two seed, Alisha Ndukwu, if she must progress.

More Nigerian players will be in action on Thursday as the J60 Abuja event reaches the second round inside the tennis section of the National Stadium in Abuja.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep tabs on the activities at the J60 competition which is being played by tennis players from across the globe.
