In another eye-catching performance at the ongoing World Junior Tennis Championship in Tunisia, Nigeria’s Oyinlomo Quadri taught her Moroccoan opponent some tennis lessons even though it was not enough to secure an overall victory for the country.
In all three matches that Nigeria has played at the tournament, the team has been unable to win a game, but the last two have been more encouraging than the opening day defeat against Egypt which was partly due to an injury sustained by one of the players.

Naija Tennis Special gathered that Quadri, who also defeated her South African opponent in Nigeria’s second game of the tournament, ensured that Morocco’s Akid Sara tasted defeat in her hands with a well-deserved 2,6, 7-5, 7-6 (3) win.
Her partner, MaryLove Edwards, was not as fortunate as she lost 2-6, 1-6 to Kabbaj Yasmine in her third match of the competition, while Nigeria also lost 0-6, 0-6 in the doubles to quash any hope for a qualification for the next stage.
Coach Abel Ubiebi, who led the team to Tunisia, believes that the players may not have improved enough to win their games, but that “the wins show that we are correcting some mistakes and that these kids are hungry to fight for the country.
“I am really proud of them in defeat because they kept trying so hard. There are a lot of positives from this tournament already and I believe we can build on this ahead of subsequent tournaments of this magnitude.”
Action resumes today at the championship as MaryLove faces Jeribi Ghaida while Quadri will seek to deal with Ben Hassan Feryel in Nigeria’s duel against hosts, Tunisia.
