Nigeria’s Adetayo Adetunji was one of the shining stars at the recently concluded Commonwealth Youth Games, but could not make it to the final round of the tournament.
The America-based youngster landed in Bahamas ahead of the coach, Ubale Mohammed’s arrival and had acclimatized before the actual tournament started, and proved herself real good but could not progress beyond the quarter final stage where she was defeated by the tournament’s top seed.

In a chat with Naija Tennis Special from Bahamas, Coach Ubale stated that the player showed her talent in the third round as she defeated her Ghanaian opponent, Miriam Ibrahim, 6-0, 6-0 but could not re-enact the same form in the quarter final.
“She lost to number one seed, Zees Desal from India after fighting before the game ended at 6-3, 6-0 against us.
“I am glad, not because we did not get the desired result, but because of the player’s attitude to the games, even in defeat. I believe that the exposure will help her get better in the nearest future and Nigeria will also get better for it,” he stated.
Nigeria’s participation at the Commonwealth Games was a return to the championship after an eight-year absence.
