Seun Ogunsakin, winner of the two-legged J30 Abuja ITF event, has spoken up on what transpired in his matches against Daniel Adeleye, the tournament’s number one seed.

The Tunisia-based youngster made the clarification after it was alleged that he defeated Adeleye, whom many expected to win the matches, because his opponent allowed him to.

Adeleye lost the final of the first leg in a final set encounter while the quarterfinal of the second leg ended in a two set win for Ogunsakin who eventually won the title by beating his Aurum Tennis Academy teammate Ikenna Prosper Okonkwo.

After the competition, Nigeria Tennis Live asked Ogunsakin what transpired in the matches, as it appeared as if his opponent allowed him to win easily.

He responded by saying: “The first week was tough, but I also knew, already, that Daniel was the major opponent who would give me a tough time if we meet.

“When I was leading 5-3 in the final set of that first leg, I knew he was not going to play well again because he was leaving for Lagos to do something, so he was rushing.

“You could tell because he didn’t even wait for the presentation before leaving Abuja. I was already leading 5-3 before he started playing that way because he knew I was going to win the set.

“And in the second week, he didn’t dash me the match. I won. The first week was a little bit difficult but the second was not as difficult for me”.

The 14-year-old Nigerian teenager is currently eyeing a number of high profile Junior ITF competitions to improve his game and move further up the ITF rankings. He is currently ranked 596 in the world.
