Nigeria’s Seun Ogunsakin is edging closer to being among the top 50 junior tennis players in the world, the newly-released ITF rankings have shown.

The Ekiti-born teenage tennis sensation started the new year in the top 100 of world junior tennis, moving him within distance of a berth in the Junior Grand Slam main draw.

And having reached the semis of J200 Marsa in Tunisia last week, he went further upwards on the world tennis rankings, as he is now a tournament win away from reaching the top 50 juniors in the world.

The newly-released rankings by the world governing tennis body shows that Ogunsakin, 16, is now ranked 67 in the world, retaining his spot as the number three player in the whole of Africa.

A win from any J200 event is likely to push the Tunisia-based player into the top 50 in the global tennis rankings, and almost guarantee a spot at the next junior Grand Slam in France.

In a similar development, talented tennis youngster, Mofifunoluwa Atilola, is now among the top 10 U-14 players in Africa.

She attained this position after reaching the semifinals of the ITF/CAT West & Central Africa Junior Tennis Championship in Togo last week.

Atilola, who does not turn 13 until October 1, 2026, has been one of the shining lights in Nigeria and Africa’s junior tennis, and looks set to consolidate on this with another ITF/CAT tournament in Algeria, in less than two weeks.

Nigeria Tennis Live reports that the tennis prodigy only started competing on the African continent barely a year ago, and has already reached the top 10 of African U-14 players.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep tabs on the activities of the youngster and report developments from her competitions to our teeming audience scattered across the globe.
