The Nigerian team to the ITF/CAT West & Central Africa Tennis Championship have qualified for the main event in Kenya, Nigeria Tennis Live has gathered.
The youngsters dominated the Boys’ U-16 and went unbeaten in the Girls’ U-14 event to reach the African Junior Tennis Championship slated for May in Kenya.
Mofifunoluwa Atilola, Emmanuella Kwange and Success Godwin led the charge for the Girls’ U-14 event, going unbeaten all week, crowning their efforts with qualification for the main event.

A Chukwudubem Amasiani-inspired Boys’ U-16 team also came first in the team event and ensured that Nigeria will be representing West Africa at the main championship later this year.

Despite losing the same number of games as the first and second-placed countries, the Nigerian Girls’ U-16 team had to settle for a third-place spot on the group rankings after the number of games and sets won were taken into consideration.

According to the final standings obtained by Nigeria Tennis Live, Cameroon leads in the placement, pipping Nigeria to second place by 20 points. Hosts Togo comes in second while Benin and Ghana follow to complete the top 5.

The 11-player Nigerian contingent is expected back to the country on Saturday, 24 January, after the week-long event.
