Yusuf Abubakar is Nigeria’s new number one male tennis player in the Doubles according to the newly-released rankings by the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF).

The rankings obtained by Nigeria Tennis Live showed the Mambilla Barracks upstart leading the way in the Doubles ahead of regular Doubles partner, Daniel Adeleye who chose a different partner during the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Open event a few months ago.

This is the first time the 2025 Strength Space Tennis Championship (SSTC) finalist is topping the national rankings log in either the Singles or Doubles event.

Meanwhile, Omolayo Bamidele, one of Nigeria’s top players, has risen to the top of the Women’s Doubles rankings after copping both the VEMP and DavNotch titles in Abuja earlier this year.

She leads the rankings log by over 40 points ahead of Success Ogunjobi who narrowly missed out on the top spot after not picking up any point at the CBN Open Doubles event.

Daniel Adeleye and Khadijat Mohammed remain Nigeria’s number one male and female tennis players heading into the Dala Hard Court Championship in Kano.

Adeleye solidified his stronghold on the number one spot despite losing in the quarterfinals of the CBN Open championship while Michael Emmanuel rose to number three after an incredible run to the CBN Open title win.

Mohammed maintained an unassailable lead at the apex of the Women’s rankings despite winning only one of the last three national tournaments.
