Folaranmi Fafowora defeated Israel’s Ido Ifargan-Frenkel in the first round of the J30 Lagos event to win his first ever ITF points.
The Osun State-based youngster who is playing his second Junior ITF tournament put up a spirited performance on Tuesday, 4 November, 2025, to stop his rampaging opponent in straight sets to reach the second round for the first time ever.
Having taken the first set 6-2, Fafowora was trailing 4-5 in the second but held serve to ensure the game remained open at 5-5.

On his opponent’s serve, he stepped up his game to take the lead and set himself up to serve for the match. While on serve, however, he double faulted twice to hand his opponent a 0-30 advantage.

With the match gradually slipping away from his hands, the 14-year-old took four points at a stretch to win the match 7-5 to a loud cheer by the spectators inside the tennis section of the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja-Lagos, venue of the competition.

He is one of the Nigerian players who won their opening matches during the first leg of the J30 Lagos event, the first ever clay court Junior ITF event in West Africa.
The first round of matches have thus been concluded as players now look forward to the second round of the tournament which promises to be even more exciting.
