Nigeria’s youngsters proved too strong for their opponents from Togo in the opening day of the ongoing U-12 West African Teams’ Championship in Ghana.
The Coach Wunmi Ogunsakin-led team started their opening day of the competition with a resounding 3-0 defeat of their Togolese opponents, putting themselves in a strong position.
Mofifunoluwa Atilola started the day with a commanding performance against Austra Leleng Andriukevicuis, Togo’s number one player, winning 6-2, 6-0 with Mabubat Rasaki finishing off with a 7-6, 6-3 win of her own in the second rubber against Kayissan Florence Assagba.

Both players combined to win the third and final rubber 6-2, 6-0 to give Nigeria a strong 3-0 start at the competition which is being held at the Ghana Lawn Tennis Club in Adabraka.

The boys had their rest day on Monday, 15 September, 2025 but will start the competition on Tuesday, 16 September, with an opening round of matches against Benin Republic while the girls will take on Liberia.

The Nigerian team is represented by Emmanuel Ogungbe, Sandaf Emmanuel – Boys; Mofifunoluwa Atilola, Mabubat Rasaki and Karina Opene – Girls.
Sierra Leone, Togo, Ghana, Nigeria, Benin and Liberia are the participating teams and only one country will qualify for the U-12 AJC. The competition will come to an end on Friday, 19 September, 2025.
