Nigeria’s Davis Cup rankings have soared in the latest rankings by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), Nigeria Tennis Live has gathered.
The rankings were concluded after last weekend’s Davis Cup World Group II matches which saw a couple of African nations fall to the World Group II playoffs which Nigeria will be participating in, in a few months.
Nigeria qualified for the World Group II playoffs after emerging third from a five-nation group that played the Africa Group III qualifier in Harare, Zimbabwe in August, 2025, and following this feat, the nation’s ranking has kept soaring.

The Nigerian team comprising of Captain Benson Ishicheli, Christopher Bulus, Daniel Adeleye, Canice Abua and Michael Emmanuel, defeated Algeria, Zimbabwe, Senegal to cement their spot in the World Group II Playoffs for the second consecutive year.

Nigeria Tennis Live checks revealed that the ranking released on Monday, 15 September, 2025 showed that Nigeria is now the seventh best team in Africa and ranks 74th in the world, from the previous 77th spot she occupied prior to the Zimbabwe trip.

Nigeria will also be looking forward to the draw to determine the teams that will play the World Group II Playoffs when the ITF determines the date to hold the draw. Potential opponents could be Benin Republic, South Africa, Togo, or one of the countries from Asia/Oceania.
