Port Harcourt will be hosting the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) Certification Course for the very first time in the South–South region of Nigeria.

The oil-rich city will be making history as the first centre to host the event in the south-south region when coaches will swarm the Port Harcourt Club 1928 Tennis Section, 31A Forces Avenue, Old GRA from 2-5 September, 2025.

Nigeria Tennis Live gathered that coaches, tennis enthusiasts, and sports stakeholders from across the country will be present in the Rivers State capital for the historical four-day event.

US-based PTR Coach Developer, Abel Ubiebi will be in Nigeria for the training and will be bringing world-class expertise and hands-on instruction directly to Nigerian coaches.

Speaking on the significance of the program, Coach Lukman Ajibose, an ITF & PTR Certified Professional and host of the event, said: “This is more than a course; it is a life-changing opportunity for Nigerian coaches.

“PTR Certification is recognized in over 125 countries, giving coaches global access to professional opportunities. Beyond the certification, participants will learn modern coaching techniques that will improve the quality of tennis instruction in Nigeria.”

Interested participants are expected to pay $400 (or its equivalence in naira) which covers the training and official certification. Participants will get the chance to network with one another and share ideas with world renowned officials and tennis coaches.

The host, in partnership with local stakeholders, emphasized that this certification will boost tennis development in Port Harcourt, the South–South region, and Nigeria at large by raising the standard of coaching and inspiring more young players to pursue the sport.

Nigeria Tennis Live reports that a cardio/high-performance coaching workshop is also scheduled for 6 September, 2025, for coaches and fitness trainers who wish to broaden their expertise.
