About 200 players from different parts of the country are currently in Lagos for the third edition of the Chief Gbolahan Odele Junior Tennis Championship.
The players who are from 15 States, are in Lagos for what is fast becoming an annual tennis festival at the Adejumo Tennis Complex, Ejigbo, venue of the competition.
The competition is featuring players in the Boys and Girls’ U-12, 14, 16 and youth category which is a special addition to this year’s event.
One of the organizers told Nigeria Tennis Live that there was quite a large number of youth players who insisted on participating in the event, hence the decision to accommodate them and make it a UTR event.

“The entry for the boys’ youth category alone is about 40, and this is just to show you how much interest they have in playing this competition, so we decided to make it a UTR event for them and accommodate as many of them as possible.

“One of Nigeria’s top players, Blessing Omotayo, is also here, and this is clearly a sign that we made the right decision by including the youths and making it a UTR event – that’s the extra motivation,” the parent who pleaded anonymity said.
