Nigeria’s Christopher Bulus tops the UTR standings among all the players participating at the ongoing Davis Cup Africa Group III Qualifier event in Zimbabwe, Nigeria Tennis Live checks have revealed.

The US-based tennis star is one of the four players representing Nigeria at the ongoing event, in the country’s quest to return to the World Group II playoffs zone after a brief appearance there.

Bulus led Nigeria to qualify for the World Group II Playoffs when Nigeria hosted the Africa Group III qualifying event in Abuja in 2024, and was Nigeria’s brightest star at the playoffs in South Africa, winning one of his two Singles matches against top 300 players.

In the Nigerian team are the likes of Nigerian number one tennis player, Daniel Adeleye, Canice Abua and Emmanuel Michael – another breakout star from the 2024 Davis Cup outing in Abuja.

Nigeria is competing against Namibia, Zimbabwe, Senegal and Algeria for three promotional tickets to World Group II playoffs. Of the five nations, three will be promoted while two will be relegated to Group IV at the end of the weeklong event in Zimbabwe.

Nigeria Tennis Live checks revealed that US-based Bulus has the highest UTR standing among all the players representing their countries at the competition.

Despite having a seemingly low ATP ranking of 1110, Bulus’s UTR (13.16) topples those of the other players competing in the event, even though some of them have higher ATP rankings.

The player with the highest ATP ranking at the competition is Samir Hamza Reguig from Algeria, with an ATP ranking of 717, however, his UTR is 12.57 when compared to his fellow countryman, the ambidextrous Toufik Sahtali (ATP 901) who is UTR 12.81.

Senegal’s Seydina Andre (ATP 908) also boasts one of the highest UTR at the competition, with his rating standing at 12.86 while another Senegalese, Nicolas Jadoun (ATP 917) stands at UTR 12.79 while Zimbabwe’s Mehluli Don Ayanda Sibanda, the other ATP ranked player, boasting a UTR 11.66.

Nigeria will be playing the first match of the competition on Wednesday, 13 August, 2025, as they will be observing an off day on Tuesday, 12 August, 2025 following the draw which was concluded on Monday, 11 August, 2025.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep all our readers updated on the latest information from the Davis Cup event which is billed to end on Saturday, 16 August, 2025.
