Mofifunoluwa Atilola, Nigeria’s talented tennis youngster, powered into the final of the Girls’ U-16 event at the ongoing CBN Junior Tennis Championship in Lagos, after defeating Gloria Samuel in two straight sets.
Atilola’s 6-1, 6-4 win over Samuel was the first time the Lagos-based youngster has defeated her counterpart from Ekiti State.

The match was deemed the final before the final, as the 11-yeaar-old was at her very best during the encounter which brought the best out of both players on the court. She will now square up against Goodnews Aina, another Ekiti player.

Aina had to battle assiduously against Favour James, another promising player from Akwa Ibom, in what was another outstanding contest at the ongoing championship. She was up 3-0 before the GUEF Tennis Academy player dragged herself back into the game.
The first set ended 6-4 in favour of the southpaw player but the second set was a lot more interesting and entertaining. James saves about 10 match points before eventually succumbing to an 8-10 loss in the tiebreak.

In the Boys’ U-16 semis, Gbolahan Olawale inflicted a final set defeat on Onyekachi Ogumjiofor, in a repeat of their match at the ITF/CAT Junior Championship early this year. He will now face Seyi Ogunsakin in the final of the competition.
The boys’ U-12 final will be between Excellency Ogoniba and Emmanuel Ogungbe in another contest that will bring tennis fans and enthusiasts on their feet while the Boys’ U-14 final will be played by Yahaya Isa and Joel Michael.

Karina Opuene and Rasaki Mabubat will give the spectators inside the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, a premium value for their money when they take to the court for their Girls U-12 final match on Saturday afternoon.
The Girls U- 14 finalists had yet to be decided as at the time this repot was filed as the heavy rainfall disrupted the matches. However, it is looking more like a match between Success Godwin and Atilola.

The final matches at the CBN Junior Tennis Championship are expected to serve off by 12pm on Saturday, 3 May, inside the prestigious Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos.
