Orufuo Ezaga, the Tournament Director, told Nigeria Tennis Live that the whole idea of the tournament is to have the players who play at home take tennis even more seriously when they consider what they will make from it.
He noted that the prize monies and other packages are a way of making the tournament worth the players’ time, energy and efforts.

“The prize monies have been pegged at N1.1m for the Men and Women’s winners while the runner-ups will go home with N600,000 each.
“The semifinalists will get N300,000 each while the players who lose in the group stages will walk home with N150,000 each,” Mr. Orufuo told our correspondent.

He also added that “this is just like the stepping stone to what we are planning for Nigerian tennis players. We want them to be excited to play our tournament and what makes it better is the fact that you have to play other local tournaments to stand a chance to get into the competition.
“The more people have tournaments like this that prioritizes the interests of the player, the more they will be interested in playing locally, because they will also believe that tennis can make them superstars”.

Nigeria Tennis Live also gathered that the players will get additional logistics support from the organizers of the Lagos Tennis Cup which brings together the best eight male and female players from across the country together.
Already, players have started speaking about the possibility of dumping other events they may have to participate in this tournament as it about the second highest-paying national tournament after the Rainoil Senior Tennis Open Championship.
Nigeria Tennis Live will keep our readers updated on new developments about the competition as they unfold in the coming weeks.
