11-year-old Mofifunoluwa Atilola has broken into the top 80 of U-14 players on the African continent after her recent tournaments in Morocco.

The Lagos-based national U-14 champion recently traveled to Morocco, to play two legs of ITF/CAT Grade A Junior U-14 Championship across two legs.

In the first leg of the tournament, she lost her opening match but was able to win her classification match as she settled into life in tennis outside Nigeria.

It was in the second leg that she ensured that she showed the stuff she was made of as she won her first round match before losing out in the second round.

Despite the loss, however, she had done enough to amass some points and break into the top 80 on the African continent. She amassed 85 points and that put her in the 75th place on the raanking.

However, in the newly-released rankings on Monday, 24 February, 2025, Nigeria Tennis Live gathered that the youngster had moved two spots from her initial ranking position.

This is despite Atilola’s non-participation at the ITF/CAT U-14 African Junior Championship Warm Up and the Main event in Kenya.

She is now ranked 73rd on the African U-14 log for the girls, and the fourth highest-ranked Nigerian female player on the rankings only behind Aina Goodnews (20), Lorelay Holzendorff (40) and Emmanuella Kwange (60).

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s top U-14 starlet, Chukwudubem Amasiani, was pushed down in the recent rankings despite reaching the semis of the competition.

He subsequently lost the classification tie and ended the tournament as the fourth best player. Consequently, he was narrowly pushed to fourth on the African U-14 ranking.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep tabs on the activities of the Nigerian players ahead of the Main AJC event which serves off today in Nairobi, Kenya, and report all the details to our teeming readers.
